This has been a strange pregnancy so far.
I was achy, tired and nauseous for the first three months. Note to the reader: I have never had the terrible vomitting associated with morning sickness like some of my dear wonderful friends have had.
But no big surprise on that first symptom.
Then I was just tired all day. Perhaps that's because I'm caring for 4 other children. One of which is a toddler and a handful, another is a preschooled age girl. That ought to explain a few things.
Anyway, I realized I was craving fruit. Very strange for me, since I am an avid meat eater. It's just what my body craves. And all of a sudden, all I can eat in the morning is a fruit smoothie. So, making the most of it, I added a tablespoon of flax seed oil. That's been a wonderful help for the feelings of complete exhaustion. Now if I get an afternoon nap I can make it through the day without threatening to discipline the kids for normal active behavior.
Then there's the craving for Mexican Food, not that that is unusual for me, even when I'm not pregnant, I want Mexican food. But this is odd in that I am craving a certain Mexican Restaurant, hint hint Ronnie, and the nearest one is about 50 miles away. What restaurant, you ask? El Chico! That's right, the best Tex-Mex in the south--well at least to me it is, right now.
They have a great Chicken Quesadilla I've been dying to have, and there queso is out of this world. I haven't been to El Chico since the one in Longview burned to the ground when I was pregnant with Melody (#3).
When I was in college, for my birthday every year, my friends and I would eat in the campus cafeteria, then go eat Mexican Apple Pie at El Chico. Mexican Apple Pie is an apple pie that is topped with cinnamon ice cream and then drizzled with Brandy Butter Sauce. It is served on a hot hot skillet and the waiter pours the sauce over it in front of you, so you hear the sizzle of the sauce on the skillet.
Oh man, I need some El Chico!

Girlfriend, I don't even wanna hear it. Here in Brazil they don't have Mexican food at all. Yeah, that's right...NO MEXICAN FOOD!! That is seriously a crime in my book. I always need mexican food, but right now I REALLY NEED IT!...and I know you know what I mean. So, yeah...tell Ronnie I said to take you to your beloved El Chico. Have some of that great queso and just as much Mexican food as you can handle...in honor of your dear ole deprived friend Michawn. :)
Tell Ronnie he better get a sitter and take you on a long road trip for dinner..sounds like you've earned it! I know when I was finally over that vomiting stage, what I craved most in the world was crushed ice (I ate a whole bag every 2-3 days), watermelon (which was bad since both my babies were born in the winter), and fried shrimp with extra cocktail sauce!! yumm!
Cravings for ice can be a signal of anemia.
That's exactly what it was. Unfortunately, I was so sick, I couldn't take the prenatal vitamins they issued or the iron pills without throwing them back up again. So I had to go through both pregnancies iron-deficient..both my babies were big and healthy though..God is good.
When you were pregnant with Ethan, you wouldn't get out of bed without a Frozen Fruit Pop. Not much different from a smoothie. ;-)
I don't remember the fruit pops with Ethan, but I definately remember eating clementines with him. A bag a day!
mmmmm.... mexican food. I can't wait to read your post describing your trip to El Chico. My vote is that you go this weekend.
Muah ha ha ha ha ;O)
