Thank you, Jennifer, for managing my blog while I was having the most beautiful baby ever!
I am recovering well at home since yesterday. A bit overwhelmed with the four big kids, I retired upstairs for much needed rest. This morning, I have found some rest and strength to come say hello to the world of the blog-o-sphere.
I will compile a photo album later and link to it from here for you all to see, but in the mean time, here's the update:
The kids are loving their new sister.
Ethan, being the oldest, has taken a special affinity to Sofia. I hadn't realized until last night that he felt responsible for the pain I was in. He didn't understand why I was hurting so much, and he just wanted to help. I wrote him a letter last night. A letter to tell him how proud I am of him and how thankful I am that God gave him to us for a son. He had mentioned to Ronnie a few weeks ago that he didn't want Sofia to be born 'too soon' like him, and he expressed some burden of guilt for his prematurity. What a sensitive child. His name, meaning "Strength" was given to us by God, the week before he was born at 29 weeks. He has the most gentle strength. Just like his daddy.
Elijah hasn't been around me much, but did cuddle up to me and Sofia on the sofa yesterday before I retired upstairs. He mostly just smiled at me. He keeps asking if I'm alright. I keep assuring him that I am feeling better every day as I get more and more rest. He is being especially attentive to Levi this week and being a great big brother. I plan on writing him a letter of encouragement tonight.
Melody could not be happier that her sister is finally here. Sofia looks like her, and she knows it. Her lips, nose and eyes are much like Melody when she was born. She is very gentle with her and takes extra special pride in introducing visitors to her new baby.
Levi woke at 4 this morning, while Sofia was crying during a diaper change. He rattled the door knob, "Let me in! I need to see the baby!" Ronnie gave her to me and let Levi in. I was lying on my right side, nursing Sofia, and Levi was propped up on my left side, peeking over at her. It was so cute. I wanted a picture, but it was 4 in the morning. He kissed her and me and went back to bed.
So, the children are smitten with their baby Sofia Grace. Nanna is here helping this week, and Ronnie is on vacation for two whole weeks! Praise the Lord! I'm so glad she came a few days earlier than planned!
